I can’t really quite articulate just how difficult it has been to deal with my first exposure to a real serious winter.
I grew up and lived in an area where winter just was sort of an after thought when it came to HVAC.
In fact, the summer heat season is so intense that I always looked forward to the winter months. Sure, we might have to flip the heat pump over to heat every now and again but that was about it. It was the best way to experience winter as far as I’m concerned. That all came to halt for me as I have transitioned to dealing with winter the way the other half of the country does. And it has not gone well. I tend to think about little else than turning up the HVAC setting. However, the furnace heat is pumping night and day anyway. The only reason I haven’t turned around and gone back to where I came from is there is some good heat in this house. I moved up north for a job. My wife is actually from the north and really cautioned me about the winter. She told me that the HVAC heating costs were high and the winter lasted months and months. I listened but I also just assumed that I could quickly adapt to the cold, the snow and the ice. My wife is even having a tough time getting accustomed to this sort of weather again. As for me, I’m just holding on in order to get through this first winter. Perhaps, with the help of my HVAC, I’ll be able to reset and next year will be better.
