The winter in these parts just keeps chipping away at me each and every year.
All the snow and ice are only matched by the deep cold temperatures. As I feel the first cold wind of winter blowing, I go into full on dread for what is bound to come. Unlike my neighbors, I was born and raised in the south. Winter down there was so mild that all we had to do was maybe wear a jacket outside. Now, I get pummeled by a type of cold that I still can’t acclimate to. I hadn’t even heard of a furnace until I moved up here. We used a heat pump where I come from. And it very infrequently came on to knock the chill out of the house. What I deal with now is much different. There is all the snow and the shoveling, it goes on and on. It’s pretty much all I can do to just simply sit inside the entire winter and huddle up inside the HVAC warmth. Even then, I’m no where near cozy warm. This year, I decided to do a few things to help maybe make me feel a bit warmer. I removed and replaced all of the weather stripping to make sure that there was a tight seal around the doors and windows. I even bought a new storm door as well. Then, I put some more insulation in the attic hoping to keep more of the HVAC treated air from escaping or cooling too soon. I know these efforts will help. But I sure would like to be looking forward to a nice southern winter.
